Parents & safety
This page is written for the parent deciding whether SportRoots belongs on their child's device. It covers how the library is built to keep young athletes safe, and exactly how to approve this site in the parental controls most families already use.
How the library keeps your athlete safe
- Our own player, our own shelf. Paid drills play in SportRoots' own video player, served from our own storage — not embedded from YouTube or any other platform. There is no recommendation engine anywhere in it.
- One drill, then it stops. When a drill ends, it stops on a still frame with the controls ready. Nothing autoplays, there are no suggested videos or "up next" cards, and nothing pulls your athlete from one video to the next. The next step is going outside to try the drill.
- Signed links, issued per family. A paid drill reaches the screen through a short-lived private link our server issues for a subscriber's signed-in session. There is no permanent public link to a paid drill for anyone to pass around, and access can be switched off per account.
- No ads. No trackers. The site carries no advertising and no third-party analytics — see the privacy policy for exactly what our own server records, in plain language.
- No child accounts. There is nothing for a child to sign into, no profiles, no chat, no comments, no messaging, and no uploads. A parent or coach holds the account; the athlete just watches the drill and practices.
- Coaches your athlete can look up to. Every sport and age band has its own avatar coach who introduces themselves first, tells your athlete they believe in them, and teaches as their coach and training partner.
Approve SportRoots in Google Family Link (Android & Chromebook)
- Open the Family Link app on your phone and select your child.
- Tap Controls, then Google Chrome and Web.
- Tap Manage sites, then Approved.
- Tap Add a website and enter sportrootsdrills.com — approving the domain covers the whole site.
If your child's device asks first instead, your child can send an approval request from the blocked page, and you can approve it in Family Link or the notification it sends you.
Approve SportRoots in Apple Screen Time (iPhone & iPad)
- On your own iPhone or iPad, open Settings and tap Family, then your child's name.
- Open Screen Time, then Content & Privacy Restrictions, then Web Content.
- Under Always Allow, tap Add Website and enter sportrootsdrills.com.
On accounts for children under 13, "Ask to Browse" is on by default: when your child tries to open a new site, you get a request you can approve from your own device — approving sportrootsdrills.com once covers the whole site.
For schools and web filters
SportRoots is an instructional site — youth sports coaching and training for athletes ages 6–18, organized by sport and age band. The site carries no advertising, no third-party trackers, no social feeds, and no student accounts.
If a school filter blocks the site, this is the note to hand to the school's IT admin: please categorize sportrootsdrills.com as Education / Sports (instructional sports training). Per-school allow rules for the domain take effect immediately.
What happens after the drill
The library is sequenced practice, not screen time for its own sake: pick the sport, pick the age band, watch the drill, go practice it. Every band opens with its coach's introduction, and the drills build on each other across 19 sports. When you're ready, see the plans — subscriptions are held by parents, the Plus plans start with a 30-day free trial with no card collected, and you can cancel anytime.
